Resumo:
As Extended Reality (XR) technologies become more accessible, the gaming industry is witnessing a surge in the popularity of immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences, particularly in the Tactical Shooter genre. Despite the commercial appeal and the potential for enhanced player engagement, there is a dearth of academic research on software architectures and frameworks tailored for XR shooters. This study addresses this gap by proposing a comprehensive framework designed to facilitate the development of Tactical Shooters in VR. The framework, developed with a focus on essential elements of Tactical Shooter gameplay, incorporates industry-standard design patterns to ensure flexibility and scalability. A prototype, the 360º Open Shooting Range, was created to demonstrate the framework’s application and was validated through a workshop with game developers. The workshop revealed the framework’s potential to streamline VR game development, with suggestions for further enhancement and documentation. This paper contributes to the burgeoning field of XR game development by providing a practical framework that can be applied to Tactical Shooters, with implications for other game genres. The study underscores the importance of continued academic research in XR game design and the need for more robust frameworks to support the growth of this market.
